Introduction

The task set forth by the exam board is to create a film opening conforming to the generic conventions of our chosen genre. The chosen genre of exploration is Drama, inspired by the neo-noir movement of 21st century cinema. The conventions of film openings such as crediting titles, establishment of setting and introduction of characters will be followed in a simultaneously strict yet fluid manner, in order to achieve a status of creative individuality. 

The genre of (neo-noir) Drama was chosen as from an artistic perspective, I personally find this field of cinema to be most impacting. The influence of intelligent cinematography and often minimal dialogue creates a sense of enigma that adds to the tension in a whole other sense to what we perceive to be conventional. For example, Drive and Sin City, as well as Mullholland Drive often maintain an artistic style throughout,to which they owe their influential success, as creative intellect is arguably, the aspect of film that keeps the audience hooked, fulfilling a desire for aesthetic gratification.  

I wish to gain from this experience what most film enthusiasts would aspire to achieve, knowledge, experience and inspiration. Capturing the stories, I imagine through the lens of a camera is, to me, the purest and beautiful art form, and to perfect this art through extensive practice on this course would be a huge, and incredible achievement.
